Exoskeleton - An exoskeleton is a tough, outer layer that provides organisms with protection and reinforcement. Because organisms with exoskeletons often lack an internal bone structure, they have joints that help with the exoskeleton's range of movement. Many arthropods (insects, spiders, and crustaceans) have exoskeletons.
